In addition to the morning and afternoon walks, we will also be offering interpretive hikes and displays that revolve around three themes.
1. Bringing Back the Birds · Focus on bird conservation and current environmental initiatives underway that are making a difference; · Illustrate how everyone can help birds in their own backyard; · Interpretive stations, including children’s activities and guided walks will be offered hourly.
2. Tropics to … Toronto · Focus on bird identification and appreciation of migratory songbirds; · Guided walks to see and hear the songbirds in the Peninsula D forest will be offered hourly; · The Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station (TTPBRS) will be offering live bird banding demonstrations.
3. Birds of a Feather that Nest Together · Focus on the remarkable world of colonial waterbirds; · Guided walks with opportunities to view and learn about the 7 waterbird species breeding at the park will be offered throughout the day.
Baillie Birdathon Park visitors will also have an opportunity to participate in the annual Baillie Birdathon to support bird research at Bird Studies Canada and TTPBRS. Our guest birdathoner this year is Bob McDonald from the CBC’s Quirks & Quarks program and he will be on hand at the festival searching for as many birds as he can find!
